Born In Time

Born in Time

Eclectic ingenue/multi-instrumentalist Rachelle Garniez, who has been melding elements of jazz, rock, pop and soul for the last three decades, recently dove back into the global canon of romance for her new album, ‘Born in Time,’ out now via Stand Clear Music.

Working with long-time collaborator Andrew Morse, who helped choose the multi-lingual repertoire, Garniez adds her improvisational acumen to the phrasing and arrangements. It’s illuminating and engaging, for both the artist and the listener.

Highlights include reimaginings of eternal bellwethers, “Lilac Wine” and “Harbor Lights,” the timeless 1920 tale, “Rose of Washington Square” and the existential Bob Dylan nugget, “Born in Time,” a standout from his twenty-seventh studio album, ‘Under the Red Sky.’

Garniez also sings two songs in French, her first language, “C’est Si Bon,” (“It’s So Good”) and “Je Cherche un Homme,” (“I’m Looking for a Man”), a pair of jaunty tunes that epitomize the cheeky bon vivant Gay Paree, they trip the light fantastic, romantic. Famed American singer/actress Earth Kitt is known for her sultry version of Je Cherche. Rachelle delivers a memorable rendition as well.

Morse and Garniez have worked together on four previous projects, Rachelle’s albums, ‘Crazy Blood,’ and ‘Serenade City,’ (both with The Fortunate Few), ‘Swimming Pool Blue,’ and AVA’s ‘History of Flight,’ a musical collaboration between the two NY-based songwriters.
